About the Artform
In this session, you will learn about, clay art, Clay has been one of the most universal and versatile building materials throughout human history. Baked clay is called terracotta. Building with terracotta is an ancient and traditional art form of the Indian sub-continent. A multi-faceted resource, terracotta has usually been used to build walls and roofs, utensils or small effigies and figurines. In India, we have the famous terracotta temples and mosques of West Bengal that have stood the test of time, replete with delicate clay motifs and figurines. We have South Indian cuisine aficionados that swear by food cooked traditionally in terracotta utensils. Terracotta is known for its easily distinguishable natural hue and texture, apart from it being a durable eco-friendly building material.

About the Session
In this session, you will learn about the beginnings Building with Kattoos is about expressing oneself creatively using common natural materials. During this workshop, you will warm up your creative muscles through a fun challenge posed to you, using materials you find around you (you do not need the Kattoos product for this). This will be followed by a short introduction to our first Kattoos product - miniature terracotta bricks - and a live demo showcasing a few examples of how the bricks can be used. We will round the workshop off with a Q & A.

Headstreams has created unique terracotta products using the versatile eco-friendly, basic terracotta building blocks called Kattoos bricks. These blocks made of natural materials are handcrafted by women in rural areas. Headstreams is a non-profit organisation that works with women and youth in rural areas and institutional settings to promote entrepreneurial mind-sets and support meaningful livelihoods, since 2008. This is achieved by creating exploratory learning spaces for design thinking, skill building and entrepreneurship development. The team which is involved in designing the bricks and the creative products will be conducting the workshop.
