About the Artform

Clay has been one of the most universal and versatile building materials throughout human history. Building with terracotta, which is baked clay, is an ancient and traditional art form of the Indian sub-continent. A multi-faceted resource, it has usually been used to build walls and roofs, utensils or small effigies and figurines. Terracotta is known for its easily distinguishable natural hue and texture, apart from it being a durable eco-friendly building material.
