About the Artform
Dating back to around 1400 years, Gond art is practiced by the largest Adivasi community in India - the Gond tribe. The Gond people believe that viewing a good image begets good luck and they decorate their walls and the floor of their houses with traditional tattoos and motifs. Each Gond painting tells a story and is deeply rooted in the folktales and culture of the tribe. The art takes inspiration from nature and is made using fine lines and vivid colors.
