About the Artform
The art originates from the land of Kutch in the state of Gujarat. Lippan in local Gujarati means 'clay' or 'dung'. These materials keep their mud houses, also known as 'bhungas', cool during the hot summers. They decorate the outer walls with mud and mirror work. This art is known as Lippan Kaam or Chhittar Kaam.
