Kalamkari is a type of hand-printed cotton textile. It refers to the ancient style of hand painting that is done with a tamarind pen, using natural dyes. Motifs drawn in this ancient art of Kalamkari, include flowers, peacock, paisleys, and also divine characters from Ramayana and Mahabharata.

Madhubani painting is a famous art form practiced by people in the region of Mithila in Bihar and is also known as Mithila art. These paintings often exhibit complex geometric patterns along with drawings of the sun, fishes, peacock, etc using bright colors. This particular type of art decorated house walls and doors and was a sign of peace and prosperity.
