About the Artform
Embroidery is an artform that is done using simple tools like the needle and thread. It was an important art in the Medieval Islamic world. The 17th-century Turkish traveler Evliya Çelebi called it the "craft of the two hands". It is used to create beautiful patterns and designs on clothes, handkerchiefs and items of home decor. Hand embroidery is said to have a therapeutic effect on the person. It relieves stress and has a calming effect on the nerves.
