About the Artform

Mandala in Sanskrit means "circle". Its history is rooted in the fact that it was used in several spiritual traditions to enhance focus and attention and was said to represent deities. Mandalas can be found among various civilizations and religions all with their unique contribution to the art form. In the New Age (1970s onwards) mandala became a geometric design that symbolizes the cosmos. Mandala Art is the art of drawing repeated geometric patterns in a cascade of concentric circles. Apart from having spiritual benefits, mandalas have been scientifically proven to induce calmness of the mind and to relax the thought process. It has been extensively used in therapy for ADHD patients with varying results.
