About the Artform

Known to date back to around the 17th century, the artform of Kalamkari is practised in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. It is a style of intricate hand-painting on fabric using natural dyes in earthy tones and involves upto 23 meticulous steps. The name is derived from the word 'kalam', which means pen.

How to get started?

  • Buy this module.
  • Download the PDF and print as many copies as you want.
  • Start by coloring and painting the various artworks given in the PDF. 
  • Traditionally, Kalamkari uses earthen tones and sober colors. So, feel free to explore and have fun!
  • You can then practice the various borders given at the end of the PDF.

    Note: If you choose to use paints, make sure to print the pages out on thick paper.
